<ref name="timing details">For whatever reason, processing time calculates differently while sleeping versus being awake. 1 hour equals 60 minutes when awake but, equals 100 minutes when sleeping.<br />So if you sleep a whole day, the machine would process 2400 minutes. (100 * 24).<br />If you work from 6:00AM till 12:00AM, and sleep 6 hours, the machine will process 1680 mins a day. (60 * 18 + 100 * 6)<br />If you work from 6:00AM. till 2:00AM, and faint 4 hours, the machine will process 1600 mins a day. (60 * 20 + 100 * 4)<br />For example, Preserves Jars need 4000 minutes to work. If you sleep the whole process, you need to sleep 40 hours, less than 2 days. If you work 18 hours a day, it takes 2 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes.</ref>
<ref name="timing details">Processing time calculates differently during the night between 2am to 6 am, each hour processing an extra 40 minutes for a total of 100 minutes. For a 4,000 minute processing time this results in either sleeping for 2 nights with 13 hours 20 minutes split between before the first night and after waking on the day processing completes, or 3 nights with an additional 6 hours 40 mimnutes split between before the first night and after waking on the day processing completes.<br/>
<ref name="day length">Assuming an effectively 1680 minute day, sleeping midnight - 6:00AM</ref>
For example, if placing a vegetable(4,000 minutes processing required) into a preserves jar on Monday at 9:00am, the pickles will be ready for collection at 10:20pm on Wednesday. If a fruit(4,000 minutes processing required) was then immediately placed into the preserves jar, the jam will be ready for collection at 9:00 am on Saturday. As can be seen, this results in 2 full processings every five days.<br/>
Starting processng between 12:40pm to 7:20pm will result in 'lost' processing time due to processing completing during the 2am-6am period of the night.

  • g/day needs recalculating after 1.4 change to processing time in a day

This page lists the productivity of processing Fruits and Vegetables into Jellies and Pickles in a Preserves Jar.

Jellies and Pickles always sell for more than the raw fruits or vegetables used to make them (except in the case of Blackberries after learning the Bear's Knowledge), so using a Preserves Jar is almost always profitable. Jellies and Pickles are always regular quality, so the profit made from processing items is lowest when using iridium quality and highest when using regular quality items.

This table shows the profitability of processing items when the player has chosen the Artisan Profession. To view the profitability for no profession, or the Tiller Profession, use the links at the top of the page.

Note that the processing time for a Preserves Jar is always 4000 minutes.

Productivity (g/minute) = ([Processed Sell Price] - [Input Item Sell Price]) / 4000

g/day = Productivity (g/minute) * 1600 [1]

  1. ↑ 1.0 1.1 Processing time calculates differently during the night between 2am to 6 am, each hour processing an extra 40 minutes for a total of 100 minutes. For a 4,000 minute processing time this results in either sleeping for 2 nights with 13 hours 20 minutes split between before the first night and after waking on the day processing completes, or 3 nights with an additional 6 hours 40 mimnutes split between before the first night and after waking on the day processing completes.
For example, if placing a vegetable(4,000 minutes processing required) into a preserves jar on Monday at 9:00am, the pickles will be ready for collection at 10:20pm on Wednesday.
