Question

If this is suppose to be a policy page on the basis of editing, why is the page left unprotected? -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 16:44, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Fixed; thanks for pointing that out. margotbean (talk) 13:20, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
Also what do you mean by "external links facilitate translation"? Interwiki links seem perfectly fine to use tho. -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 17:34, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
Translators stumble over mediawiki syntax on a daily basis. Having external links seems to be less of a problem for them to interpret. margotbean (talk) 15:19, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
I really don't think this is a problem. The wikipedia interwiki link is simple enough to use. In fact, I think it's more than possible to just create a template to create Wikipedia links if that's the issue. We use a template on Nookipedia called Template:Wp that gives ease to add interwiki links to Wikipedia.
If it's still that hard to implement though, I'd be happy to assist with implementing interwiki links. -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 12:24, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
I will keep that in mind, however, this isn't something we're looking to implement at this time. margotbean (talk) 14:31, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Game image assets

I was wondering what other editors use as setup to extract and upload game assets. I've read Modding:Editing_XNB_files and installed SMAPI and StardewXnbHack, but what tools do you guys use to extract the assets from the files? I'm having difficulty selecting subsections and keeping the quality up. For instance, some icons I can only get 16x16px while the uploads here all have 48x48. Any tips? New user

When are you "no longer considered a new user"? I want to redirect pages that don't exist (e.g. "Arcade") to pages that do (e.g. "The_Stardrop_Saloon#Arcade"), but I am blocked from doing so, with no documentation on when this restriction will be removed from my account. Quisido (talk) 20:43, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

New user restricions exist to combat spam and vandalism, so publishing the details of how to bypass them would defeat their purpose.
The wiki discourages unnecessary redirects because they confuse translators, especially when editors link to the redirect page instead of directly to the source page. Thanks for your inquiry! margotbean (talk) 12:54, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
I've encountered a similar problem when trying to create a Dig Site redirect, most of the redirects may be unnecessary, however it is confusing for most wiki users when they use the search bar, and find no searches that match what they are looking for at first glance. Is there a specific page where new editors can voice their suggestions for consideration by admins/moderators? GrapeJelly2014 (talk) 23:51, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
There is no central location, but I read every new edit. margotbean (talk) 16:23, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

Orthographic error

I'm just writing to inform that there's a orthographic error in the Help:Editing page, in the editing section, in the "When making edits, please try to remember to edit all affected pages." topic. When it uses the example of the Spice Berry it then talks about the Spring Seeds, when it should talk about Summer Seeds instead. Thanks. Didi3310 (talk) 12:05, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Thank you very much, I've corrected the error! margotbean (talk) 13:14, 28 May 2025 (UTC)

Possible Contribution

I think I have discovered something new. A 777th tillable tile on the Ginger Island farm main plot (the 100 figure for outlying tiles is correct). All references I have seen (Google AI, for example) state there are only 776. Is there any way I can get this possible contribution looked at? Pilgrim (talk) 22:27, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

New user: Images

I'm trying to upload/replace an image, but when clicking on "Upload file" I get a permission error page. Am I correct in assuming this is the same new user restriction preventing large edits or adding hyperlinks? Is the best way forward to just keep contributing and wait until I can? Or to ask someone else to upload the image? Thanks in advance! Carlvr (talk) 18:07, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi there! You are correct, it is a new user restriction. If it's an update to the game's images that anyone (with unpacked game files) can upload, you can let me know which image changed. If you'd like to wait and make more contributions, that would work also. margotbean (talk) 18:10, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the answer. It's about one of the layouts for the shed, so not just one of the game files. I could send it to you, but it's not too important, so I'm also happy to just wait and do it myself at a later point. Carlvr (talk) 18:34, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Preference between Second-person and Third-person?

Compare:

  1. Until you give the marriage candidate a bouquet, their heart meter is capped at 8 hearts.
  2. Until the player gives the marriage candidate a bouquet, their heart meter is capped at 8 hearts.

This feels to me like a question of “guide vs. wiki” writing style. Second-person phrasing sounds natural in a guide, whereas third-person phrasing feels more appropriate for an encyclopedia.

However, many pages on the wiki currently make extensive use of the second person. This creates a consistency problem when editing existing articles: should I 1) follow the surrounding second-person style so that new edits blend in with the rest of the page, or 2) deliberately use the third person where possible, even if the resulting prose is inconsistent with the surrounding text?

Thanks in advance. Aquila zyy (talk) 18:36, 10 September 2026 (UTC)

All pages other than the Getting Started Guide should use 3rd person. Perhaps the "Strategy" section on Monsters' pages is an exception to that as well. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind a list of the many pages that currently use 2nd person? :D
To answer your question, editors should use 3rd person when making edits. Correcting the surrounding text from 2nd to 3rd person would be a nice addition as well. margotbean (talk) 18:50, 10 September 2026 (UTC)
